About me

I am a certified Learning and Performance Institute trainer. I combine training work with community activism and volunteering, my experiences continually inform training content and style. I have worked with, and trained people from Age UK, Crisis, Greater London Volunteering, Citizens Advice Bureau, Directory of Social Change, and the NHS.   11_Training_lowresHaving worked as a manager, for myself, and also within a flat-structured workers’ co-operative, as well as volunteering regularly, I understand the issues faced by individuals and organisations in creating strong community involvement.  You can read more about my training approach here.

As well as training and advice I work as a volunteer and project co-ordinator.  Recent work has included : co-ordinating a community produce scheme with Organiclea,  a food growing and distribution cooperative in East London which involves volunteers as part of the small community enterprise; me on biketrailerand recruiting and co-ordinating the volunteer E17 Art Trail Team and other festival volunteers for Artillery, an arts development organisation in Waltham Forest.

Working in small local projects while interacting with varied organisations in training continues to inform my best practice knowledge and the way that I work independently with community groups.ivy and lel chopping2 My volunteering recently with my daughter has given me added perspective on a new and largely untapped area of volunteering too.

Until 2009 I worked for Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets and I continue to train and volunteer with them.

During 2008 I spent 5 months on sabbatical teaching English and computing  to coffee farmers in Nicaragua.  I have written about both teaching and my experiences of Fairtrade here.
